Handcrafted Metal Clutches

Every Platero clutch begins as a flat sheet of brass, shaped and hand-engraved into a solid metal frame — oxidized silver or antique gold finish, never fabric, never mass-stamped. What follows is our complete collection: eleven pieces, each built to be carried like an ornament rather than folded away like a bag.

The Craft

Why metal, and why by hand

A hand-engraved surface has a depth and irregularity that stamped metal simply doesn't — you can feel the difference before you can even name it. Each piece is shaped, engraved and finished entirely by hand, which is also why no two come out quite identical.

Because the piece is defined by its sculptural form and finish rather than a print or fabric that needs matching, a metal clutch reads as jewellery you happen to carry — which is exactly why it tends to sit comfortably with both an Indian silhouette and Western eveningwear, without needing to "match" either one.

Questions

Frequently Asked

A metal clutch is built on a solid metal frame — brass, finished in oxidized silver or antique/polished gold — rather than fabric or leather. Platero's pieces are hand-engraved rather than printed, so the pattern is cut into the surface itself.

Keep it away from direct contact with perfume, water and sweat. Store it in the pouch provided when not in use, away from humidity, and wipe it gently with a soft, dry cloth after use. Avoid dropping or scraping it against hard surfaces, which can damage the engraving.

Yes. Since the piece is defined by its metal form and hand-engraving rather than a fabric print, it doesn't need to visually match an outfit the way a fabric clutch might — it works equally well alongside a saree or lehenga and alongside Western eveningwear.
